HIT/RUN Motor Vehicle vs Pedestrian March 4; BPD seeks information

INCIDENT:  Hit & Run MV Crash Involving Pedestrian

OCCURRED:  Wednesday March 4, 2015 8:50 PM

LOCATION: S. Washington Avenue & New Bridge Rd

On Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at approximately 8:50 PM, Bergenfield Police Communications received several 911 calls reporting a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle while crossing S. Washington Avenue at New Bridge Rd.  The vehicle involved fled the scene and was last seen traveling northbound on S. Washington Avenue and then turned eastbound onto East Englewood Avenue, a side street just north of the crash scene. Witnesses reported the vehicle’s headlights were turned off as it left the scene.

The victim, a 73-year-old female resident of Bergenfield, sustained injuries to her head and arm. She was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center by Emergency Medical Technicians from the Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance and paramedics from Holy Name Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. She has been admitted to the hospital for the head trauma and her condition is reported as stable at this time.

The Bergenfield Police Department is seeking assistance in locating the vehicle involved in this crash. The vehicle involved has been described as dark-colored, possibly a Nissan Altima or similar style vehicle, with possible damage to the front passenger side.
