Based on the NWS Weather Advisory, No Overnight Parking (Ord. 299-10) permission will be granted in the Borough of Bergenfield for the hours of 2 AM -5 AM Friday March 20, 2015. If conditions deteriorate, the area is subject to a snow emergency being declared. The storm will be monitored, patrols will report on road conditions and stay in contact with Department of Public Works personnel.

**Any vehicle that is left parked and in any way blocks the safe passage of other vehicles on any Borough street is subject to towing/removal and will be cited for a Title 39 violation under NJ Traffic Laws.

39:4-67. Obstructing passage of other vehicles or street cars prohibited; clearance of intersections
No vehicle or street car shall be permitted by the owner or driver thereof to so occupy a street as to interfere with or interrupt the passage of other street cars or vehicles, nor shall the driver of a vehicle or street car drive such vehicle or street car into an intersection if preceding traffic prevents immediate clearance of the intersection.

Update: Mar 23 2015 Missing Person located-Returned Cancel Alerts

INCIDENT: Missing Person Endangered Located-Returned March 23,. 2015

OCCURRED: March 19, 2015 01:47 PM

LOCATION: Frederick Place, Bergenfield NJ

Subsequent to a response for a possible suicidal male residing on Frederick Place on this date at 09:17 AM, the Bergenfield Police have issued a Missing-Endangered Person bulletin for:

Samuel Mensah
Age 46
Height: 6-02 
Weight: 180 lbs
Short Black hair
Eyes: Brown
Skin: Dark Brown
Unknown Clothing description  

Male is reported to be despondent with suicidal thoughts over very recent death of his spouse. He has no vehicle and may be on foot or have used local mass transportation.

If anyone knows his whereabouts or may have seen him, please contact the police department using 911.

Police Activity: Welfare Check - Possible Suicidal Individual in Residence

The Bergenfield Police Department is currently investigating a possible suicidal person at a Frederick Place address. There is a history of police contacts with the individual, a 46-year-old male, residing at the location. The police have requested the Bergen County Regional SWAT Unit to assist with attempts to make contact with the person possibly at risk. 

Based on the person’s recent arrest by the Bergenfield Police that involved resistance, we are taking all precautions to investigate further. There are no known weapons on the premises and no threats have been made regarding use of weapons, however, the police and SWAT are handling the situation taking all possibilities into account.

The area of New Bridge Road and Frederick Place is barricaded to traffic until the situation is resolved.

Information for Sunday March 15: Traffic-Parade event

On Sunday, March 15, Bergenfield will host the Bergen County St. Patrick's Day Parade.The following information is posted regarding the event concerning traffic diversions, road closures and other parade information.

The parade begins at 2:00 PM on South Washington Avenue by East Englewood Avenue. The marchers will move north on South Washington Avenue and will end at Bradley Avenue and North Washington Avenue. The reviewing stand will be located in front of St. John the Evangelist RC Church, 29 N Washington Avenue.

The staging area for all participants in the parade will be in the areas of South Washington and East Englewood Avenue, West Englewood Avenue, Sylvan Avenue, North Street, and Warren Street. Drop-off should be early before the street closure. If dropping off after closures, you must utilize the side roads off Murray Hill Terrace to access either East Englewood or Sylvan Avenues to be able to drop at South Washington Avenue. You may also drop off on New Bridge Road near Warren Street or Foster Street to access that same area.

The major intersections of New Bridge Rd and South Washington Avenue, Clinton Avenue / S Washington Avenue, Main Street / Washington Avenue, Church St / N Washington Avenue will all be closed to through traffic at 1:30 PM.

All side roads along North and South Washington Avenue will be closed and barricaded by 1:00 PM.

EMERGENCY-NO PARKING signs will be posted on numerous side streets and main roadways. Observe all posted signs.

Public drinking of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited under Borough Ordinance Chap 87.

Fraudulent Emails - Phishing - Do not be scammed!

BPD reminds residents to be aware of fraudulent emails that request your information. These are nothing more than what is called "phishing."

Phishing is the attempt to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money) by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

An example is pasted below. This is an actual email. Alert your family members, friends, relatives and co-workers. Don't fall victim to these scams. Also see the Chase link for information on other fraudulent type emails that have been circulating.
