Between
July 2017 and September 2017, the Bergenfield Police experienced a string of
commercial burglaries, which occurred mainly during the overnight to early
morning hours. Twenty-four burglaries were reported between 7-14-17 and
9-27-17. The actor, who was committing the burglaries, appeared to be targeting
businesses which had cash at the locations. Video surveillance was obtained
from some of the burglaries, which showed the actor wearing a mask, gloves, and
most distinctively, a backpack, linking the actor to several of the burglaries.
On
9-27-17, the same actor committed a burglary to Burger King, located at 250 S.
Washington Avenue. After this incident, officers and detectives gave chase of
the suspect, but was able to avoid apprehension.
After
an 8-month investigation, information was developed that the actor, identified
as Aaron Sukhdeo, a 27-year-old male from Bergenfield, was responsible for the
Burglaries. On 3-26-18, members of the Bergenfield Police Detective Bureau
under the supervision of Det. Sgt. William Duran, arrested Aaron Sukhdeo after
being released from the Bergen County jail on a separate charge and charged him
on a warrant for nineteen (19) counts of Burglary, twenty-four (24) counts of Criminal
attempt to commit Burglary, numerous counts of Possession of Burglary Tools and
Theft, one count of Obstruction of Justice, and Resisting Arrest. Mr. Sukhdeo
was lodged back in the Bergen County Jail, pending a detention hearing.
