"Meet Our Officers" introducing PO Firman Masri



Firman was born in Queens, NY and raised in Clifton, NJ.  He attended Clifton High School and graduated in 2001, then attended Bergen Community College.

Firman enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2003 and was with an infantry unit that trained in Japan, participated in a multinational peacekeeping exercise with the United Nations in Mongolia, and spent time in Norway with NATO in support of Exercise Battle Griffin.  Firman was also deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  During his time in the Marine Corps, Firman was a fire team leader and has gone through extensive training on firearms, combat lifesaving, and anti-terrorism.  Firman received numerous awards and unit citations and was honorably discharged.   

In 2013, Firman was sworn in as a police officer for the Bergenfield Police Department and is currently assigned to the patrol division.  His military background will help him through his law enforcement career.

When not at work, Firman enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons and playing in an adult soccer league.  He is also the assistant coach of his son's recreation soccer team.

Second Active Shooter Drill

There will be a second active shooter training drill at 130 S. Washington Ave, Roy Brown Middle School, tonight starting at 7 pm and conducted throughout the night. The Police department will be utilizing all resources as if this was an actual incident. Police, Fire, EMS and many others may be called onto the scene. Police radios will be used to reach out to other first responders while stating, “This is a drill” prior to calling out for them. Once again, this is only a drill.

BPD would also like to thank the Board of Education for giving us the opportunity to utilize the school in training for an active shooter. This drill will allow us to better prepare and streamline resources should an incident ever occur. We ask for non-essential personnel to please refrain from responding to the area and to refrain from contacting the police desk in regards to this drill.

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrests of GLEN S. THOMASSINI, age 44 and JAMIE L. ARANGO, age 34 both of Bergenfield, New Jersey, as well as KEITH SANTOLI, age 29 of Bergenfield, New Jersey on drug possession charges.  These arrests are the results of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor=s Office Narcotic Task Force under the direction of Chief Carmen MARTINO, the Dumont Police Department under the direction of Chief Joseph L. FAULBORN JR., the Bergenfield Police Department under the direction of Chief Cathy MADALONE and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department under the direction of Sheriff Michael SAUDINO.

Pursuant to a police investigation, it was determined that Glen S. THOMASSINI was involved in the distribution of controlled dangerous substances in Bergen County, New Jersey.  On Tuesday, February 2, 2016, search warrants were executed on Mr. THOMASSINI’s vehicle and at his residence. Mr. THOMASSINI, Ms. ARANGO, and Mr. SANTOLI were present during the execution of those search warrants. 

As a result of searching Glen S. THOMASSINI’s residence, approximately one (1) ounce of suspected cocaine, one (1) ounce of suspected crack cocaine, one-half (1/2) ounce of suspected heroin, seven (7) ounces of suspected marijuana, various prescription legend drugs, digital scales (commonly utilized to weigh narcotics), numerous empty baggies (commonly utilized to package narcotics), and $9,594.00 in United States Currency were located and seized from this location. 
 
Upon further investigation, it was determined that controlled dangerous substances were allegedly present at Keith SANTOLI’s residence.  A subsequent search of Mr. SANTOLI’s residence yielded a small portion of suspected heroin.         

Glen S. THOMASSINI was charged with one (1) count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Crack Cocaine, a second degree crime; one (1) count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Cocaine, a second degree crime; one (1) count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Heroin, a second degree crime; one (1) count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Marijuana, a third degree crime. Bail for Mr. THOMASSINI was set by the Honorable Louis J. Dinice, J.M.C., at $75,000.00 with no ten percent cash option. Mr. THOMASSINI was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.

In the course of executing the search warrant, Jamie L. ARANGO was placed under arrest and was subsequently charged with one (1) count of Obstruction of the Administration of Law, specifically by obstructing the investigation of a crime, a fourth degree crime. Ms. ARANGO was released on a Summons pending a first appearance court date on February 3, 2016.

Keith SANTOLI was charged with one (1) count of Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Heroin, a third degree crime. Mr. SANTOLI was released on a Summons pending a first appearance court date on February 3, 2016.

Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would like to thank the Dumont Police Department, the Bergenfield Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this investigation.

MV Crash Involving two Pedestrians

INCIDENT: MV Crash involving two pedestrians

OCCURRED: 02/03/2016

LOCATION:   S. Washington Ave / New Bridge Road


On Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at approximately 10: 46 pm, two pedestrians were struck by a motor vehicle while crossing S. Washington Ave., north of New Bridge Road. Pedestrian 2 who was in a wheelchair was being pushed by pedestrian 1 in an unmarked roadway, traveling westbound to eastbound. Pedestrian 1 is identified as Leroy Fray, age 59 of Bergenfield, NJ and pedestrian 2 is identified as Edward Marshall, age 61 of Bergenfield, NJ. Pedestrian 1 sustained a laceration to his face and a possible broken arm. Pedestrian 2 complained of pain to his upper body. Both pedestrians were transported to Hackensack University Medical center for their injuries. Animal control was notified as Pedestrian 2 had a pet snake inside a box.


The driver of the vehicle who was not injured is Judith Nadzick, age 67 of Elmwood Park, NJ. There were no summonses issued at this time.

"Meet Our Officers" introducing PO Tim Knapp




Tim was born and raised in Cortlandt Manor, NY.  He graduated from Walter Panas High School in 1999.    

Tim joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 2000 and was stationed as an Infantryman at Camp Lejeune, NC and as an Infantry Unit Leader at Garden City, NY. He was deployed numerous times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. 

In 2015, Tim was sworn in as a Police Officer for the Bergenfield Police Department and assigned to the patrol division.  Prior to that, Tim worked as a Uniformed Protection Officer for the Department of State.  Tim is a Bergenfield Youth Academy Instructor and an Honor Guard Member for the Department. 

Tim and his wife Blaise have been married for 13 years.  They have two children, Isabel and Amelia.  When not at work, Tim enjoys spending time with his family and is an outdoorsman.  When the weather is right, you can catch Tim hiking or mountain bike riding.

INCIDENT: MV Crash Involving Pedestrian

OCCURRED: February 2, 2016

LOCATION:   W. Clinton Ave / S. Prospect Ave


 On Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at approximately 3:48 pm, a female juvenile pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle while crossing W, Clinton Ave / S. Prospect Ave. The juvenile, age 16, was walking in the crosswalk at the time of the accident. The vehicle driven by Irina Shevchuk, age 51, of Fairlawn, NJ was traveling westbound on W. Clinton Ave., and made a left turn onto S. Prospect Ave., striking the juvenile.

The juvenile sustained a small laceration to her face and complained of pain to her neck and head area. Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance responded and transported the juvenile to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. The juvenile’s mother was notified. High School Principal James Fasano followed the ambulance with his personal vehicle, awaiting the juvenile’s mother to respond.


The driver of the vehicle was not injured and was issued a summons for careless driving. The investigation remains active at this time.
