Press Release: DWI Arrests


Incident: DUI Arrest

Date: May 23, 2014

Location: South Front St & West Main St.

On Friday, May 23, 2014 at approximately 12:45 pm, PO Michael Legregni was on patrol and detected the odor of burnt marijuana in the area of South Front St and West Main St.   PO Legregni believed the odor of burnt marijuana was emanating from a 4 door Dodge, silver in color.    

PO Legregni conducted a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle in question on South Front St.  The driver was identified as Bryan P. Paler age 24 of Haworth, NJ.  PO Legregni detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the interior of Mr. Paler’s vehicle.  Mr. Paler was asked to exit his vehicle for field sobriety tests.  A half smoked marijuana joint was secured from Mr. Paler’s vehicle by PO Legregni at the scene.
 
Mr. Paler was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to police headquarters.  Mr. Paler was evaluated by a drug recognition officer and served with a complaint summons for 2C:35-10, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and for 2C:35-10B, under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. 

Mr. Paler was also issued two motor vehicle summonses for 39:4-50, driving under the influence and 39:4-49.1, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. 

Mr. Paler was released and given a date to appear in Bergenfield Municipal Court.

 


Incident: DWI Arrest

Date: May 24, 2014

Location: East Clinton Ave & James St.

On Saturday, May 24, 2014 at approximately 10:14 pm, PO Robert Mader was dispatched to the area of East Clinton Ave and James St for a reported motor vehicle crash.   While investigating the crash, PO Mader detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the breath of a driver involved in the crash.

The driver was identified as Miguel Ponce Luna age 34 of Arnold, MD.  PO Mader asked Mr. Luna to perform field sobriety tests.  Based on PO Mader’s observations of Mr. Luna and the results of the field sobriety tests, Mr. Luna was arrested for driving while intoxicated. 

Mr. Luna was transported to police headquarters where he gave two breath samples.  Mr. Luna was issued summonses for 39:4-50, driving while intoxicated, 39:4-50g, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, 39:4-96,  reckless driving, 39:3-29, failure to exhibit registration, 39:3-29, failure to exhibit insurance and 39:3-17, touring privileges expired.

Mr. Luna was released and given a court date to appear in Bergenfield Municipal Court.
