Press Release - Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer


On 1-18-18, At approximately 4:08 am, Bergenfield Police Officer James Acito was on patrol and entered 7-11, located at 53 N. Washington Avenue. Upon entering the establishment, he was advised by the employees that a male who was walking in and out of the business was causing a disturbance. Upon P.O. Acito making contact with the male, who was identified as Darian Perry, a 23 year old male from Bergenfield, Mr. Perry threatened P.O. Acito and threatened other individuals inside of the establishment. While P.O. Acito was attempting to place Mr. Perry under arrest, a struggle ensued and Mr. Perry resisted and struck P.O. Acito in the face, causing a laceration to the officer’s lip and a hand injury.

Mr. Perry was charged on a complaint warrant for Terroristic Threats, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of CDS, and Resisting Arrest and was lodged in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing.
