Bergen County Prosecutor John L.
Molinelli announced the arrest of DENNIS
CALONIA (DOB: 10/13/1971) of Bergenfield, New Jersey
on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact and
Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest is the result of an
investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special
Victims Unit under the direction of Chief Carmen MARTINO and the Bergenfield Police
Department under the direction of Chief Michael CARR.
On July 11, 2015, members of the Bergen
County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Bergenfield Police
Department arrested Mr. CALONIA after learning that he forcibly engaged in
inappropriate sexual activity with a (13) thirteen year old male.
The
Division of Child Protection and Permanency learned what had occurred between Mr.
CALONIA and the victim, and notified the Bergenfield Police Department and the Special
Victims Unit. The ensuing investigation resulted in the arrest of Mr. CALONIA.
Dennis CALONIA was charged with one (1)
count each of Aggravated Sexual Assault, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact and
Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Bail
for Mr. CALONIA was set by the Honorable Lisa Perez Friscia, J.S.C., at $250,000.00
with no ten percent option, no contact with the victim and the surrender of his
passport. Mr. CALONIA was remanded to
the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
Prosecutor Molinelli states that these
charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent
until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to
thank the Bergenfield Police Department for their assistance in this
investigation.
